About Us

History

Action Home Care has been a leader in Central Florida home health care since 1942. At that time, LRMC was known as Morrell Hospital, and was housed in Quonset huts on the site of its current facility. At the request of the physicians of Morrell Hospital, a registry of skilled nurses was developed to provide care for patients after surgery. This company was The Lakeland Nurses Registry.

In 1981 the company was purchased by the current owner, H. Jean Wright, RN, thus fulfilling the childhood dream inspired by a friend of her mother’s, a visiting nurse who frequently shared stories of how she felt she was making a difference in the lives of her patients. Jean ran the business out of her home for the first three years while her children were small. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, she covered shifts when necessary, and slept with the phone next to her so that she would always be available to respond to her patient’s needs.

In the mid 1980’s, the company was granted licensure and the name was changed to Action Healthcare, Inc. Since that time, the broad expansion of home care services has brought about the need to better define the company’s role within the community by changing the name to Action Home Care. It is easy to see from even a brief examination that home care will soon be the center of all healthcare in America.
